Continuing remembrance

Acts that can be done on behalf of a loved one. Most you can do yourself, at no cost.

  1. 01Recite Quran for them

Any surah, a juz or a full khatam, recited with the intention of gifting its reward. Surah Yasin, al-Mulk and al-Fatiha are often chosen.

  2. 02Make dua and ask forgiveness

In your own words and language, ask Allah to forgive them and raise their station. The Prophet (saw) called it one of the two gifts for the dead.

  3. 03Pray Salaat al-Wahshat

A two-rak'ah prayer on the first night after burial. Anyone can pray it.

  4. 04Give sadaqah in their name

Any amount, to anyone in need. There is no minimum, and it can be given quietly.

  5. 05Visit their grave

Greet them, recite Surah al-Qadr seven times and ask forgiveness.
